“Classical music meets traditional”

Friday April 26 at 9:00 p.m.

Thessaloniki Concert Hall

A special chamber music concert where two classical pianos (Elena Christodoulou/Christina Panteli) collaborate with the Cretan lyre and violin lyre (Manos Pirovolakis) trying to bring together the sounds of Western well-tempered music with traditional Greek music. Distinct and original transcriptions, made by the musicians themselves, musically unite the three instruments in the Dances of the Greek composers Nikos Skalkottas and Yannis Konstantinides, as well as in the concerto for violin and orchestra BWV 1041 of J.S. Bach. Folksongs from the regions of Crete, Thrace, Epirus, Cyclades and Smyrna (Asia Minor) are transcribed and presented by the two pianos with incredible virtuosity and mastery, while the Cretan lyre shapes innovatively the line of improvisation. The three virtuosos bring together two different musical worlds with great passion and innovation.
